Trevor Lawhorn
SIOUX FALLS, SD – Infielder Trevor Lawhorn today signed a contract to return to the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2009. While playing for the Canaries in 2007, Lawhorn was twice signed by Major League Organizations.
Lawhorn had hit .286 with four home runs and 10 RBI in the first 13 games of the 2007 season, when the Seattle Mariners grabbed him to fill a hole created by injury. After the Mariners injury problems subsided, Lawhorn was released and returned to the Canaries. Trevor’s second stint in a Canaries’ uniform lasted just 17 games, and saw him hit .319 with four homers and 14 RBI before getting signed by the Washington Nationals.
“Trevor is a very capable player that can fit in our line-up in several different positions,” said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley. “I would love to get the chance to send him to a Major League Organization for a third time.”
Trevor spent all of 2008 with the Nationals. In splitting time between the Low-A Hagerstown Suns and the Advanced-A Potomac Nationals, Lawhorn played in 80 games hitting .236 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.
The Canaries will open the 2009 American Association Season at the Birdcage with a May 14 game against the St. Paul Saints. The Season Premier will feature a Pre-Game Championship Ring Ceremony and a Post-Game Fireworks Display presented by the Canaries 2009 Season Sponsor, First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard.
