Tonight the Canaries welcome back second baseman Trevor Lawhorn  Lawhorn started the 2007 season with the Canaries before getting picked up by the Seattle Mariners organization. Prior to getting signed by the Mariners, Lawhorn hit .286 in 13 games with the Canaries, blasting four home runs and recording 10 RBI. Lawhorn was assigned to the Mariners Single-A affiliate, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. In 29 games with the Timber Rattlers, Lawhorn hit .252 with 3 HR and 20 RBI. Lawhorn was released by the Mariners last week and rejoins the Canaries for tonight’s game.

The Canaries have opened a roster spot for Lawhorn’s return by trading outfielder Wil Quintana to the Atlantic City Surf of the Can-Am League. Quintana hit .312 with 11 HR and 26 RBI in the first month of the 2007 season, but struggled up until being traded. In his last 28 games with the Canaries, Quintana has hit just one homer and his batting average dropped 80 points to .232. In return for trading Quintana to Atlantic City, the Canaries will receive a player to be named later.

The new look to the Canaries line-up will be unveiled tonight at the Birdcage when the Canaries host the Lincoln Saltdogs in the opening game of a four-game series. Canaries first baseman Abner Arroyo comes into tonight’s game with a 21-game hitting streak, one game shy of the league record. In 2006, Lincoln outfielder Pichi Balet established the American Association record by hitting safely in 22 consecutive games. St. Paul Saints catcher Marcel Longmire equaled the league record earlier this season.

The Canaries' bats exploded Tuesday night as they pounded out 16 hits en route to a 10-1 victory over the Sioux City Explorers at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Birds got three hits each from Trevor Lawhorn (including a solo home run), Ben Van Iderstine and Matt Imwalle to back Pat Mahomes, who earned his ninth win of the season.

The Canaries (13-12) scored three runs in the third and then put the game away in the sixth with a five-run outburst, keyed by a pair of RBI doubles by Juan Figueroa and Van Iderstine.

With the win, Mahomes (9-4) becomes the first Canaries pitcher to win nine games in a season since Cory Walters (9-5), who turned the trick in 2004.

With his eight strikeouts, the Canaries' ace has 96 for the season, 13 shy of the Birds' single season record.

Canaries pitchers have now fanned 547 hitters, more than they did all of last year.

Mahomes, who pitched an eight-hit complete game, said he felt good, despite throwing 149 pitches, according to the official scoreboard operator, who recorded 95 of those pitches for strikes.

"I had pretty good control," he said, noting that "when you get 10 runs it makes it that much easier.

Trevor Lawhorn Shines in Sun's Home Finale
In a season of ups and downs, switching from one team to another, Trevor Lawhorn closed out the home part of the season in dramatic fashion. Trevor stole the show offensively for Hagerstown with three hits in five at-bats. Lawhorn's first at-bat was his second home run of the season, a towering fly down the left-field line. Lawhorn followed up with a triple and a double later in the game.
If not for a strikeout in the eighth inning(only needing a single) he could have hit for the cycle. Instead the Suns closed out the home part of their schedule with a 7-0 WIN.
